Amma Tell Me

Bringing India’s festivals & tales to life — one bedtime story at a time.

Bringing India’s festivals and myths to life through joyful stories for little readers.

Amma Tell Me

When my boys were little, bedtime became our sacred hour — a space filled with cuddles, giggles, and an ocean of curiosity. It was never just about putting them to sleep; it was our moment to journey through stories together. Each night arrived with a new flurry of questions — 'Why do we celebrate Diwali?', 'Who was Hanuman?', and 'Why does Ganesha have an elephant’s head?'

I wanted to answer those questions in a way that was fun, imaginative, and meaningful — something my children could understand, enjoy, and remember. However, when I searched for books that explained our festivals and mythology simply and joyfully, I couldn’t find any. So I decided to write them myself. That’s how The Amma Tell Me series was born — out of a mother’s wish to share the wonder, wisdom, and joy of Indian culture with her children. What began as one bedtime story soon grew into a series of picture books that bring to life” India’s timeless tales — from Krishna’s playful mischief to Hanuman’s valour, from the colours of Diwali.

Each story is told in a playful rhyme, paired with vibrant illustrations that bring our ancient myths to life for young readers. The books are designed to be read aloud — perfect for families who want to introduce their little ones to the festivals, deities, and traditions of India in a way that feels warm, engaging, and non-preachy.

Stories that children love and parents cherish.

The Amma Series is more than a collection of stories. It is a conversation between a parent and a child—one that travels gently from one generation to the next, carrying timeless tales from the past into the present. These stories have journeyed through centuries, passed down from one storyteller to another, and I feel deeply grateful to pass them on in my own way.

Through these books, I hope families everywhere will rediscover the joy of reading together and the deeper values these stories hold — courage, kindness, perseverance, and faith. Whether you are a parent, grandparent, or teacher, my wish is that The Amma series brings the same sparkle of curiosity and wonder to your storytime as it has to mine.

Amma Take Me

The Amma Take Me series was born from my desire to bring India’s incredible heritage and faiths to life for children. Through the eyes of Amma and her two ever-curious kids, we travel together to temples, churches, sufi shrines, gurdwaras, and other sacred spaces across India. Each book blends mythology, history, and storytelling in a way that’s both engaging and easy for young readers to connect with. I wanted these stories to help children appreciate the beauty of our traditions — not as something distant or old, but as something living and full of wonder. Published by Penguin Random House India, the series is ideal for readers aged eight to twelve (though parents often tell me they secretly enjoy them too!).
